Gran Canaria Pharmacies
Pharmacies in Gran Canaria
Green cross signs in every town and resort, with a duty rota covering nights and holidays right across the island.
Spanish pharmacies do more than fill prescriptions, and on a holiday island that matters. The pharmacist is the first stop for sunburn, insect bites, blisters, upset stomachs, seasickness before a boat trip and ear trouble after swimming, and trained staff can advise on and sell a range of treatments over the counter.
Look for the green cross. Every town has at least one pharmacy, the southern resorts and Las Palmas have many, and a duty rota means one is open at night and on public holidays; the pharmacy on duty is posted on the door or window of the others. Staff in the resorts are used to foreign visitors and many speak English. Bring any regular medicine in its original packaging with a copy of the prescription, and your European Health Insurance Card or travel insurance details.
