It lies in the municipality of Tejeda, it was declared a natural monument in 1994, and it stands inside the Parque Rural del Nublo. From the top of the path the view runs across the mountains and, on a clear day, over the cloud to Teide on Tenerife.
Visiting it takes planning. Since 3 February 2025 access to the S-70 trail from the Degollada de La Goleta has required a reservation made in advance, with a limit of 60 people an hour and entry checked by the QR code the booking provides. Parking around the rock is prohibited, and La Goleta, which used to be the main access point, no longer has parking; the restriction is there to protect the area and to keep the GC-600, the Llanos de la Pez road past the trailhead, from gridlock.
The two park-and-ride car parks are in Tejeda village and at Cruz de los Llanos. A shuttle bus runs from both to the start of the trail, about half an hour from Tejeda and about ten minutes from Cruz de los Llanos, and from Cruz de los Llanos you can walk instead, the shortest path taking about 50 minutes. Line 18 also runs from the Faro de Maspalomas to the trailhead and back three times a day.
By car the Roque Nublo area routes at 62 to 69 minutes from the airport, the southern resorts and Las Palmas, for 40 to 51 kilometres, while the airport to Puerto de Mogán, a longer distance, takes 45: the mountain roads, not the distance, set the time. Nearby, the viewpoint at Pico de los Pozos de la Nieve, at about 1,950 metres, has a car park beside it, and the tourism board advises warm clothing, suitable footwear, food and water above 1,400 metres.
