Sport fishing on Gran Canaria works out of the harbours of the south and south-west: the marina at Puerto Rico, Arguineguín, Pasito Blanco and Puerto de Mogán. Trips run by the half day or the full day, and range from inshore bottom fishing, which suits beginners and families, to offshore big-game trolling for the large ocean species in deep water.

Charters usually include rods, tackle, bait and the fishing licence, but check each of those rather than assuming, and ask what happens to the catch: some boats let you keep part of it, while others release the big fish. Shared trips cost less than taking a boat privately. The catch, in the other sense, is the weather: the Atlantic can cancel a trip at short notice, so book early in your stay and keep a spare day.
