Gran Canaria Grill houses
Grill Houses and Steak Restaurants in Gran Canaria
The grill is the island's meat restaurant, and it comes in two forms. The country version sits inland and uphill, in the villages of the centre and the north, and cooks pork, chicken, goat and rabbit over charcoal or wood, served with papas arrugadas, mojo and a salad rather than a string of courses. It is the natural lunch stop on a drive through the hills.
The second form is the steak house, found along the southern resort coast and in Las Palmas, with imported beef cuts, a grill in view and a longer wine list. Portions in both are large, and ordering to share is normal. The practical point is the drive: the inland grills are reached on mountain roads that are slow for their distance, so whoever is driving gets the water jug with lunch.
